Highland’s Summer Internship Program is designed for students to participate in a work-study program in the USA during the summer.  Students will be assigned an individual mentor to help them get the most from this unique and amazing opportunity.

Summer Internship Programs

 

Summer Service Internship: 3-week summer program for students ages 14 to 17

 

Students will intern at an American summer camp and will work with young children between ages 6-12. This program equips teens with important leadership/life skills such as Teamwork, Responsibility, Communication, Problem Solving and Community Service. These vital leadership skills are taught in a safe, fun and challenging group environment.

Teens get hands-on experience working with kids alongside trained counselors. Interns help maintain group control, create a safe environment for campers and assist in day-to-day activities.

 

Typical Day:

8:00 Check in campers as they are dropped off.

Play morning games until camp activities begin at 9.

9:00 Interns separate from campers to participate in English language classes

11:00 Interns return to campers to lead Team Building Activities

12:30 Lunch

1:30 Support Camp Activities

3:30 Assist camper departure

4:00 End of internship day

 

Daily Reflection

Interns meet daily with Mentor to participate in guided reflection activities designed to help interns explore ways this experience grows useful skills in their lives.

Social Activities

On weekends, interns will participate in fun activities with other interns- amusement parks, local beach, shopping excursions, hiking at Great Falls.

Interns will perform their internship activities for 2 weeks.

Interns will tour for 1 week.

They will visit:

  1. Washington, DC

  2. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

  3. New York City

  4. Yale University

  5. Boston, Massachusetts

  6. Harvard University

 

Custom Internships: 4-week summer program for students age 16-18

 

This is a competitive, customized program designed to complement the following study tracks:

  1. Education

  2. Engineering

  3. Bio-Medical Research

  4. Medicine

  5. Business

Interns will participate in internship programs for 2 weeks. Programs follow the traditional American business workday, with participation hours Monday through Friday from 8:30am-5:30pm. All interns speak daily with a highland internship mentor. Interns compliment their 2-week internship with college application preparation and touring.

Weekend activities include college tours, shopping excursions, amusement park trip, bowling

Custom Internship schedule:

  1. 2-week Internship

  2. 1-week Naviance preparation- students set up their Naviance college application portal, learn how to use the website to navigate the college application process and begin to build their high school resumes.

  3. 1-week tour of the east coast of the USA- Washington, DC, Philadelphia, New York City, Boston
